Summer Walking Routes To Explore London
This summer, head out and about to explore more of London in the best way possible: on a walking tour. There’s no better way to see the hidden treasures of the city than travelling around on foot, which allows you to see streets and attractions that are so easily overlooked when you are on the bus or tube. Today we’re going to share some of our favorite summer walking routes to help you see more of the city during the warmer months of the year.
St. James’s Park
If you fancy a gentle stroll this summer, St. James’s Park has a variety of routes for you to explore. It’s a great spot for anyone who is interested in history, as it’s London’s oldest Royal Park. You can pair your visit here with a stop at St. James’s Palace and Buckingham Palace, which are two of the city’s must-see sites for first-time visitors. Keep an eye out for the wildlife that calls this park home, as even when it’s busy, you’ll often see a lot of classic British animals out and about.
Explore the South Bank
One of our favourite walks to take in London is along the South Bank, from the Tate Modern to the Jubilee Gardens. There are endless stops you could make on this route, but our favourite time of the day to spend time here is around sunset. The National Theatre and Tower Bridge are two highlights of a walk here, but throughout the year there are always new things to see and do. While we love doing this walk in the summer, we also recommend returning come winter, when it comes to life in a whole new way with the Christmas markets.
The Jubilee Greenway
The Jubilee Greenway stretches from Little Venice to Camden, and it’s a beautiful walk along the canal. You might be surprised by how quiet the Jubilee Greenway is, especially with its close proximity to London Zoo. You could spend some time at this popular attraction, then relax along the water watching the canal barges or boats float by. Camden Market is a great stop at the end of the walk for anyone who’s feeling a little peckish. The street food on offer at the market is some of the best in the city, so make sure you come feeling hungry. It’s a really varied walk which will offer you a new appreciation for everything the city has to offer.
These are just a few of our favourite walks for anyone who is visiting London this summer. The summer weather offers the perfect time to head out and see more of the city on foot, allowing you to find some new areas for you to enjoy spending time in. London isn’t as crowded as you may think when you start exploring with a walking tour, and it’s the best way to get of the tourist trail and find a new appreciation for the city.
