One of the highlights of any visit to London is a trip to the West End to see one of the many shows on offer. If you are staying in our Bloomsbury Palace Hotel, you’ll be just a short distance away from many of the biggest theatres in the city. Today we’re going to share some of the shows that have recently reopened in London that you might want to consider seeing during your upcoming visit to the city.
The Prince of Egypt
The Prince of Egypt is currently playing at the Dominion Theatre and has been one of the most popular new shows in Central London of the past year. It’s based on the 1998 animated movie and features music and lyrics from Stephen Schwartz of Wicked fame. Unless you are exempt from wearing a mask, the theatre is working to keep visitors safe by encouraging face masks as you move around the theatre. Tickets have a set time for your arrival, which works to minimise crowds.
Cinderella
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s much anticipated Cinderella finally opened this year, with Carrie Hope Fletcher starring in the title role. This new romantic musical comedy is playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre and is one of the must-see shows this year. The theatre is requesting that people take a lateral flow test 48 hours before their show, although there is no formal requirement for this. They also suggest you consider wearing a face covering to keep yourself and everyone else safe while enjoying this new West End show.
Come From Away
Come From Away is a Canadian musical that is set in the week following the September 11 attacks. The show is based in the Phoenix Theatre and tells the true story of what happened in Gander, Newfoundland, during this time, and is a touching show that anyone will enjoy. It’s a one-act show which features a talented cast who all take on the roles of some of the most influential figures on the island at the time. We appreciate the theatre’s commitment to safety, and anyone over the age of 18 must demonstrate their COVID-19 status in one of the specified ways to gain entry to the show.
Six the Musical
If you are looking for a modern musical that teens and young adults will enjoy, we highly recommend Six the Musical. It’s a British musical that is a modern retelling of the lives of Henry VIII’s wives. The show is presented as a pop concert and takes place at the Vaudeville Theatre near Bloomsbury from the end of September. This West End theatre show requires you to follow government guidelines and recommends wearing a mask if you are able to.
These are just a few of the highlights of the shows that have reopened in the West End, and all of them are within a short distance of our Bloomsbury Palace Hotel in Central London. We highly recommend booking in advance for the best seats before your trip, and you’ll have a night to remember during your stay in London.
