London is one of the world’s top cities for design and this is celebrated each year during the London Design Festival. What is London Design Festival?
London Design Festival is an annual event that is now entering its 22nd year. This year’s event will take place from 14-22 September, 2024. The event strives to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world. First started in 2003 by Sir John Sorrell and Ben Evans, the event will spread over nine days this year across the city. The event is focused on the general public and encourages people to come together to share new ideas and gain inspiration from one another.
During the London Design Festival, you can expect to see over 400 exhibitions and events across the city. These are hosted by partner organisations from around the world and there are also Landmark Projects and Special Commissions throughout the city. The Victoria and Albert Museum takes part in various projects as well each year. Most years, the event sees over 600,000 visitors coming from over 75 countries. Over 2,000 businesses and organisations take place in the event and there are daily tours, workshops, talks and keynotes from various speakers and leaders within the industry.
London Design Medals
On top of everything we shared so far about the event, another highlight of the London Design Festival will be finding out who the recipients are of the London Design Medals. The London Design Medals include the main award of the London Design Medal, followed by the Design Innovation Medal, Emerging Talent Medal and Lifetime Achievement Medal. This event works to recognise talent within the industry and celebrate the achievements of the past year.
