When travelling anywhere in the world, safety should be your top consideration before arriving at your destination. While London is typically a safe city for tourists, there are certain things to remember when travelling around the city both in the daytime and at night. Today we’re here to share our top tips for how to stay safe in London to make your next visit to the city your most enjoyable one yet.

Plan Your Journeys in Advance

London is a big city to navigate for first-time visitors. If you are coming here from overseas or just visiting for the first time, take some time to learn a little more about the tube and bus systems on offer. These are very convenient and safe transportation options, but you’ll want to know where to connect to have a smooth and safe journey. The more lost you look on the underground, the more likely you will be a victim of petty crime and pickpocketing. When taking public transport, make sure to keep your eyes on your surroundings at all times to avoid losing any of your valuable belongings.

Keep Your Electronics Safe

Most of us travel today with mobile phones and other electronic devices. When you are out and about in London, make sure you know where your phone is at all times. These are the most common items that people lose in the city, and you don’t want to lose all your photos and trip memories. If you are staying in a hotel like ours, make sure you put your electronics in a safe when you are going out for the day to keep your laptop or iPads safe when you are out and about.

London at Night

London is an incredible city at night and wandering around the city and seeing the buildings all lit up will be a highlight of your trip. If you are going out to the theatre or nightclubs at night, make sure you check the time that the tube or bus you need to get will finish. Many of our hotels are within walking distance of these types of venues, but you don’t want to miss the last tube home and end up with a very expensive taxi ride. At night, make sure you try to always go out with someone else where you can. Although London is a great destination for solo travellers, you’ll need to be more aware of your surroundings as you are seen as an easier target when going out alone. Tell someone where you’ll be at all times so that they can help you if needed.

By following these basic London safety tips, you’ll be able to avoid any issues on your upcoming visit. London is a great city for travellers from around the world, and by keeping your wits about you when you are out late at night or walking around alone, you’ll find that you’ll feel safe and secure here most of the time. Our team is here to support you when staying at any of our hotels, so don’t hesitate to contact us ahead of your visit with any questions you have about visiting London.
