London is home to some of the best art events and exhibitions in the country and across Europe. If you are planning a visit to London this year or staying at our Great St Helen Hotel or King’s Cross Mabledon Court Hotel, you’ll want to research in advance the great events happening during your stay. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of the upcoming art calendar in central London.

Where to Stay for an Art Trip to London

If you are looking to immerse yourself in the London art scene, we recommend booking a central London hotel that will help you to make the most of your time in the city. Our Great St Helen Hotel in Liverpool Street or Mabledon Court Hotel in King’s Cross are both well connected to the city by tube and bus. You’ll find it easy to get to any of the events we share here today and will enjoy having somewhere convenient to come back to after a long day out in London.

Frieze London

Frieze London is one of the most popular art fairs in London each year, held in Regent’s Park. Since it started in 2003, it has become a top destination for contemporary art lovers, collectors, and curators. The fair usually runs over four days in October and showcases work from leading international galleries and a variety of media types. As well as the exhibition itself, you’ll find that the talks and panel discussions with artists and critics are another reason to visit. The event runs alongside Frieze Masters, which focuses more on historical art. We recommend checking out the event calendar ahead of a visit here, as there are a lot of panels and special events which you’ll want to plan your day around to avoid missing out on anything of particular interest to you.

The Affordable Art Fair

Held every two years in Battersea Park, the Affordable Art Fair strives to make art more accessible to a wider audience. As the name suggests, the fair focuses on art that is affordable, with prices of the artwork on offer ranging from about £50 to £7,500. We know that many art lovers feel quite intimidated by other art fairs, which is why Will Ramsey founded this event back in 1999. Not only does the event take place in London now, but it has expanded with other editions in New York, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong. Expect about 100 galleries to showcase their work during the Affordable Art Fair alongside a range of talks, tours, and workshops which are open to everyone.

Other Art Exhibitions in London in 2024

In addition to Frieze London and the Affordable Art Fair, London’s 2024 art calendar is filled with other exciting exhibitions. The Tate Modern continues to be a popular destination for contemporary art, and in 2024 exhibits on offer include those featuring German painter Gerhard Richter. We also recommend visiting the Royal Academy of Arts during your time in London, where you can see works by artists including Monet, Degas, and Van Gogh.
