One of the highlights in the London music calendar is the BBC Proms. Over 58 days this summer, visitors and locals in London can experience over 90 incredible concerts. With something on offer for everyone’s musical tastes, we are excited to host visitors to London in our Central London hotels who are heading to the BBC Proms. Let’s look at what you can expect from this year’s event and where to stay to make the most of your time in the city.
When is the First Night of the Proms?
The first night of the event this year will take place on Friday 19th July 2024. The Royal Albert Hall will host the first event and is one of the key venues where many of the most anticipated events will take place. Conductor Elim Chan will present Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony on night one. This is her debut at the BBC Proms and soloist Isata Kanneh-Mason will also make an appearance on this night.
Highlights of the BBC Proms 2024
With events spread over nearly two months, the BBC Proms offers something for everyone. This schedule offers a good mix of both modern and classical music, but you’ll want to make sure you start looking at tickets now, as the most popular events quickly fill up. Proms director David Pickard returns for one more year, but it has been announced this will be his final year leading the event. Highlights of the 2024 calendar include Florence + The Machine, Bristol’s Paraorchestra and Sam Smith.
While the event slowed down a little because of the pandemic, this year we see orchestras flying in from Berlin, Paris and many other cities around the world to entertain the London audience. Following the death of Sir Andrew Davis, who conducted the Last Night many times, there will also be a tribute to him. He had been scheduled to conduct Prom 54 in August, but Pickard promises they will find the right way to pay tribute to his musical talent and joyful spirit.
